The Wood Memorial Library & Museum in South Windsor CT is holding its first Gingerbread House Festival until December 15. The Gingerbread House Exhibit is only open on Monday’s and Thursday’s from 10am to 8pm. Admission is free!
When I saw an article about this festival, I had to check it out. I don’t know what I expected to see, but I never imagined I would see so many Gingerbread Houses, each meticulously and beautifully decorated. As soon as I opened the door to the Museum, my senses were greeted by gingerbread. There are about 63 Gingerbread Houses on display at the historic and quaint Wood Memorial Library & Museum. All are made from real gingerbread; some made by professional bakeries, and others by home bakers.
The Gingerbread Houses were submitted by girl scout troops, high school students, women’s clubs, senior citizen groups, restaurants, and yes, bakeries. Some entries are from South Windsor residents and businesses, while others came from nearby towns – Tolland, Hartford, Manchester, Amston, Farmington, and not so nearby towns – North Branford, Northford, and Greenwich. Most of the Gingerbread Houses will be sold on December 15th either by raffle or in a silent auction.
The Gingerbread Houses are so beautiful I wanted to share them with the readers of my blog. I hope you enjoy the virtual tour below of the 1st Annual Gingerbread House Festival at the Wood Memorial Library & Museum.
