Old Wethersfield, Connecticut’s oldest town, features more than historic homes and wonderful architecture. On the northern side of the historic district is Standish Park, where Hartford Ave., Garden St. and Nott St. converge. At first blush, the playground in Standish Park might look like many other playgrounds, but this one is different. Mikey’s Place, named after a little boy who passed away in 1998 from a spinal muscular disease, was built in the fall of 2000, as a playground for children of all ages and capabilities, although the playscapes are generally for children ages 2-5. Mikey’s Place features wheelchair accessible playscapes and enables children, regardless of the their abilities, to be children, play and have fun. Everyone has fun at ‘Mikeys Place.
